Full Description
This role helps to foster self-reliance, care for those in need, and provide opportunities for giving and service by: helping members become economically and emotionally self-reliant; providing access to essential food and clothing items, helping members prepare for and respond to disasters; and providing humanitarian aid to relieve suffering; thus furthering the mission of the Church.
Under direction of the driver manager, and in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, the incumbent operates a heavy-duty truck-tractor with semi-trailer hauling commodities for the Welfare Self-Reliance Department and General Church throughout the United States and Canada.
Duties include: Driving as a regional driver in a safe manner by conducting daily vehicle inspections, performing simple maintenance, completing safety training, pre-planning routes, following all traffic laws, and working within Federal Hours of Service guidelines to deliver on-time. Regional drivers typically travel within a 750-mile radius of the home terminal but may be deployed for multiple days. They may also haul farm commodities using specialized agricultural equipment which requires doubles and heavy-haul experience and endorsements. Regional drivers are paid piece rate for miles and stops; are responsible for their own meals and hygiene items; and sleep in their tractor. Expectations include loading and unloading trailers; refueling and cleaning the vehicle; finding ways to maximize payloads; and conserving resources such as diesel fuel. They serve as company advocates and church ambassadors in every interaction with customers and the public.
