Job Description: Elementary School Teacher- Licensed or Transition to Teaching
DEPARTMENT: Lower School
REPORTS TO: Principal
SCHOOL MISSION AND VISION: Central Christian Academy is a Christ-centered learning community empowering youth from underserved families in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. CCA seeks to train and prepare students to succeed in life by providing a Christ-centered education that cultivates a Biblical worldview. God has uniquely gifted each child; therefore, the definition of success looks different for everyone. Central Christian Academy is committed to helping students identify their unique strengths, improve their areas of growth, refine their short and long-term goals, and access the opportunities necessary to move them toward academic and career success. Central Christian Academy has approximately 100 students in the K-5 Lower School program.
POSITION SUMMARY: The lower school (K-6) teacher is responsible for fostering children's intellectual and social development in the first phase of their school experience. The teacher instructs students in all core subjects, including bible, science, reading, writing, vocabulary, math, social studies, and the arts.
POSITION OBJECTIVES: The Major responsibility of the position is to provide quality education to students in a manner consistent with our school mission statement. This includes planning, preparing, and delivering biblically integrated instruction in the defined subject area and grade level. Each teacher should have an understanding of the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual developmental milestones of the students they will teach, having the ability to formally and informally disciple students.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The teacher is a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ in both their professional and personal life with a calling and commitment to Christian education, displaying an inherent passion for God, students, and teaching. Teachers must establish and nurture positive relationships as they teach and disciple students and work closely with colleagues, parents, school administrators and community members, showing respect at all times.
Qualified teachers will also be characterized by demonstrating professional discernment and good judgment, as well as the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues tactfully and professionally. The teacher must set a Godly example that honors the school's standards and expectations. The ability to address concerns and offer suggestions appropriately and confidentially must also be evident.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position. Must be able to maintain a stationary position for over 40-50% of the workday. Must be able to traverse the classroom and campus. Must be able to use the computer and other audio-visual equipment. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs. Must be able to position oneself to work with children. Must be able to communicate with others. Specific vision abilities required in this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to hear low volume sounds. Must be able to assist children for health and safety reasons.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Generally, classroom setting. Possible change in temperature/humidity; potential for excessive noise, using computer/monitor screen. Some exposure to the elements is to be expected while assisting with student arrival/dismissal and recess duties. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school.
