Full Description
The City's Fleet Technician job is unlike any other! This position works regular daytime hours Monday-Friday the majority of the year, and has the opportunity to work on unique vehicles such as police cars and firetrucks. This position is on a career development track, which includes Fleet Technician I, II, and III levels, depending on qualifications. Fleet Technicians perform diagnostic, maintenance and required repair work on trucks, cars and other motorized or mechanical equipment to keep the fleet well maintained, safe and ready for use when needed.

Position Responsibilities:
Vehicle Maintenance. Performs routine maintenance, inspections, diagnosis and repairs on various types of City owned equipment, including construction equipment, lawn equipment, snow removal equipment, automotive, light/ med/ heavy truck and fire apparatus. Tasks include oil changes, chassis lube, replacement of hydraulic hoses, light bulbs, batteries, spark plugs, alternators and water pumps, re-sealing of hydraulic cylinders, change, mount and balance tires, and re-charge A/C systems. Maintains unit maintenance records through the City's electronic fleet data software.
Fabrication. General metal fabrication and welding.
Vehicle and Equipment Operation. Listens and receives calls on radio and cell phone to receive assignments. May assist in the loading and unloading of facility related parts and supplies. May assist in transporting of equipment to external vendors for fleet related work.
Purchasing and Inventory. May be requested to assist in the ordering of fleet related materials, parts and supplies in accordance with City policies and procedures.
Shop Maintenance. Performs general maintenance, cleaning and organizing of the shop area.
Emergency Operations. Performs immediate equipment and vehicle repairs on damaged or malfunctioning equipment during emergency operations. Could assist driving City equipment during snow removal and ice control operations if needed.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications for an entry-level Fleet Technician:
Hiring salary range for an entry-level Fleet Technician begins at $24.50 per hour (DOQ).
Minimum Qualifications for a senior-level Fleet Technician:
Hiring salary range for an senior-level Fleet Technician begins at $28.00 per hour (DOQ).
Certifications such as; ASE's, EVT's, or other related certifications are preferred and will be considered in determining hiring range and position level.
Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities identified in this job posting may also be considered.
Work Schedule:
This position generally requires eight hour days, Monday through Fridays (excluding City observed holidays). This position does also have the option to work an alternate schedule (i.e four 10's) during the summer months. This position may require working during off-duty hours for snow and ice removal, ice control operations, and other emergency situations. Emergency response shifts begin upon call-in and can occur anytime, day or night, seven days per week including holidays.
