Position Summary Information
Position Summary
The class A truck driving instructor under the authority of the program coordinator is responsible for instructing in the college's CDL Training Program that will result in students' success of achieving CDL licensure. Instructors will provide instruction in motor vehicle laws and regulations, daily logs, pre-trip and post trip inspection. Vehicle maintenance, safety procedures, defensive driving, freight handling, space management, speed management and security. Instructors will use range training exercises and highway driving procedures, as well as classroom training to develop the students' knowledge and skills. Instructors will communicate with all students in a positive and understanding manner and be resourceful in understanding challenges that students face and positive ways to work through them to achieve success.
Responsibilities
1. Be prepared to teach using a variety of instructional techniques for assisting students in developing needed skills.
2. Maintain appropriate, professional communication with students always.
3. Provide demonstrations of needed skills and a hands-on approach to learning needed skills.
4. Satisfy all federal and ELDT requirements and regulations for the program.
5. Maintain complete and accurate records of paperwork, including students' progress reports for the range and the road, as well as attendance, and any other paperwork necessary for audit purposes.
6. Maintain all other course documents necessary to reflect expected student learning outcomes.
7. Insure safe operation and maintenance of all equipment.
8. Always maintain a safe environment for learning.
9. Ensure a positive relationship with all companies and recruiters for both local, regional, and over-the-road companies
10. Accept other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
1. Develop an understanding and appreciation of the mission, history, current programs, services, and goals of the College.
2. The CDL A training instructor will demonstrate the ability to solve problems and work directly with a diverse group of adult learners.
3. Effective writing as well as public speaking skills are required. The ability to solve problems as well as work independently in a fast-paced environment.
4. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and work effectively with people of all social, economic, and educational levels and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school diploma or GED, required.
2. Class A CDL with 5 years of experience in the commercial trucking industry, required.
3. A clean driving record for the past 3 years, required.
4. Current DOT physical, required
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prior experience as a CDL A training instructor, preferred.
