Class Concept

The City of Dublin is currently hiring a 2nd shift Public Service Maintenance Worker (Streets) to join our team!

This position is open to current members of the United Steel Workers (USW) bargaining unit. All interested candidates should submit an online application in order to be considered. If this position is filled internally by a bargaining unit member, the wage rate will be determined in accordance with the contract.

Hours: Monday - Friday; 2:30pm - 10:30pm

Primary Focus:

Under the direction of an Operations Administrator, the successful candidate will work alone, or as part of a crew, and will perform a variety of road maintenance and repair tasks. Duties require working outdoors in all weather conditions, performing light to heavy manual labor and maintenance work, as well as operating a variety of hand tools and power equipment.

Given the nature of this classification's duties/responsibilities, it has been designated as Non-Exempt under the governing Fair Labor Standards Act regulations and, therefore, is entitled to formal overtime compensation and/or formal compensatory time.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Repairing roads, curb and gutter and sidewalks
  • Providing traffic control during street repairs
  • Collecting yard and leaf waste
  • Setting up barricades, signs, and cones
  • Operation of salt truck with plow and spreader
  • Assisting with community special events
  • Operating a variety of hand tools and power equipment
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School degree or GED equivalent
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

  • Possession of physical strength, agility, and endurance to perform all essential functions
  • Transfer and carry heavy objects and in excess of 75 to 125 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 50 to 100 pounds of force frequently
  • Ability to maneuver over, under equipment and in small work areas while performing essential functions
  • Ability to dig, bend, and lift, work in confined spaces
  • Ability to operate a variety of light and medium motorized vehicles
  • Ability to demonstrate dexterity in the use of hands and feet
  • Ability to walk long distances and/or work while standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to work under emergency conditions in support of fire and police operations
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring stooping, bending, climbing ladders and stairs, etc.
  • Ability to utilize necessary protective clothing and equipment to avoid potential dangers

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability and willingness to obtain such license during probationary period.
  • Subject to call in during snow removal operations and emergency situations, which may require working irregular shifts. If called in during such situations, must report to work within 35 minutes of call, unless road conditions at the time of call in preclude arrival within the 35-minute time parameter.

Other Requirements:

  • Regular attendance, as governed by and in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, procedures and laws, is regarded as an essential requirement of this classification.
  • Compliance with training directives established by supervisory/managerial personnel.
  • Adherence to all applicable Federal and State safety laws, rules, and regulations and City safety policies/procedures.
