Are you a skilled heavy equipment operator with a Class A CDL? Chatham County Public Works is seeking an Equipment Operator IV to join their team, where you'll operate a variety of motorized equipment, supervise crews, and perform maintenance tasks, ensuring the efficient completion of construction and maintenance projects.
Under general direction, you
- Operate various light, medium, or heavyweight motorized equipment used in construction, maintenance, or sanitation work.
- Perform canal and ditch maintenance operations, including cleaning out debris, excavating waterways, grading, filling, and repairing washouts.
- Load and haul equipment, machinery, debris, and topsoil.
- Perform sustained physical labor requiring lifting, pulling, bending, and operating heavy equipment.
- Supervise and train work crews.
- May at times be on call on a 24-hour basis as this role is on the Critical Work Force Category 2.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED, and
- At least four (4) years of experience operating two or more types of heavy motorized equipment, including heavy construction equipment, and experience performing minor repairs to equipment; or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes endorsement at the time of application.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Tanker endorsement and Hazard Material endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
- Must provide and wear approved steel toe protective footwear during regular working hours.
