JOB TITLE: Senior Auto Mechanic
DEPARTMENT: Public Works and Transportation

SALARY: $22.74471 hourly/$47,309.00 yearly

Job Summary/ Scope
Repairs heavy and medium duty equipment, including motor graders, wheel loaders, excavators, and Class 1-8 trucks; specialty equipment, including street sweepers, slurry seal trucks, Vacuum sewer basin cleaners, and paint striping machines, all other motorized equipment for the department, with particular emphasis on trouble-shooting difficult and unusual mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical problems. Fabricates and assembles new equipment for use. Skills in Microsoft Office and knowledge of asset/fleet management software preferred. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Materials and Equipment Directly Used
Operates a variety of equipment, including hand tools used in the maintenance of trucks and equipment. Also operates various vehicles and equipment when making repairs. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed under a variety of conditions ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Also requires such physical activities as climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling. Must be able to operate equipment with dexterity. Work requires routine lifting objects weighing as much as 30 pounds. Occasionally lift objects weighing as much as 75 pounds or assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 75 pounds. May be subject to emergency call-in. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required or must be able to obtain within 6 months. One to three years' experience in a related field required, three to five years' experience preferred.
Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
