THIS IS A DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL POSTING OPPORTUNITY. ONLY CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF HAMILTON COUNTY WATER & WASTEWATER TREATMENT AUTHORITY (WWTA) WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.
Under limited supervision by the Hamilton County Water & Wastewater Treatment Authority (WWTA) Executive Director and the WWTA Board, oversees the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and collection system, leading a team of staff to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, manage capital improvement projects, develop operational strategies, and actively monitor system performance, often requiring extensive experience in wastewater treatment processes and strong leadership skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, physical requirements, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, plus seven (7) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of permitted wastewater treatment plants and/or decentralized treatment systems and sewage collection systems, five (5) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity. Must have five (5) years of direct work experience with Hamilton County WWTA. A valid driver's license is required.
OR
An Associate's Degree in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, plus nine (9) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of permitted wastewater treatment plants and/or Decentralized Treatment systems and sewage collection systems, five (5) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity. Must have five (5) years of direct work experience with Hamilton County WWTA. A valid driver's license is required.
OR
The equivalent of a high school diploma plus eleven (11) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of permitted wastewater treatment plants and/or decentralized treatment systems and sewage collection systems, five (5) years of which must be in a supervisory capacity. Must have five (5) years of direct work experience with Hamilton County WWTA. A valid driver's license is required.
SAFETY SENSITIVE:
This position has been identified as "safety sensitive" under the definition of 49 CFR Part 40-Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Policy. This position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing for the following: 1) post offer pre-employment 2) when there is reasonable cause 3) after an on-the-job accident or contributing to an accident 4) on a random basis 5) prior to return to duty after suspension and/or 6) as follow-up. This is additional and also subject to the Rules and Regulations of The Employee Handbook.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A State of Tennessee Certification Collection System Operator Grade II or State of Tennessee Certification as a Wastewater Treatment Operator Grade III is required at the time of application.
This position is deemed essential during inclement weather situations, and must report to or remain at work, even when administrative closings are announced, as determined by the Department Head.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A valid Class "A" CDL is preferred at the time of application.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work requires limited physical effort involving intermittent driving, sitting, and walking with limited standing. A regular visit to construction and treatment plant sites is required. Occasional lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds is required. Required to enter confined spaces.

This position may require employee to be available to work holidays, during inclement weather and be part of an on-call work schedule.
