Job Summary:

Overhauls, repairs, and maintains different types of gasoline and diesel automotive equipment. Replaces, repairs, and/or tunes automotive vehicle engines to ensure efficient operation.

Major Responsibilities:

Diagnoses and repairs City-owned vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, emergency vehicles, refuse trucks, and small engines. Outfits new vehicles and equipment bought by the city. Fabricates parts to repair or alter equipment. Assists in Facilities Management with the maintenance and repair of facilities. Assists with preventative maintenance on City vehicles. Research technical information for proper diagnostics and repairs of equipment and machinery. Maintains a personal tool inventory with City-funded tool allowance. Makes field service calls as necessary. Maintains and repairs onboard computer systems. Maintains shop equipment. Performs routine generator checks. Welds and cuts materials in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Assists fellow coworkers in the diagnosis and written description of problematic repairs. Responds to after hour emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Valid Oklahoma Class "A" CDL Driver License or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Sufficient experience to perform the essential duties of the job usually associated with three (3) years of hands-on experience. R134A reclaim and recovery license in automotive air conditioning or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Strong knowledge of automotive systems and maintenance practices. Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, including personnel laws, policies, and regulations. Knowledge of the function, repair, and maintenance of all types of construction, utility, refuse, and emergency vehicles and equipment. Skill in the use of power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment. Skill in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics. Skill in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment. Skill in the use of computers and related software programs. Skill in oral and written communication. Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line phone systems. Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes. Ability to operate and repair small equipment, such as power tools. Ability to operate and repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers. Ability to operate and repair heavy or complex machinery, such as vehicles and construction equipment.
