Description
Under occasional supervision, maintains, repairs and upgrades wastewater treatment plant equipment and related facilities and equipment. Performs related work as required. Reports to the Crew Chief.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Receives, prepares and ensures the timely completion of all work orders.
Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on plant equipment and systems.
Troubleshoots, assesses and performs scheduled and emergency repair work on equipment and systems.
Upgrades and/or replaces equipment as necessary.
Performs welding and fabrication work as necessary.
Gathers supplies and parts for repair and maintenance duties.
Assists plant operators and other department technicians with maintenance and repair work as required.
Prepares and maintains accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
Keeps supervisor informed of the operating status of equipment and systems.
Performs general building and grounds maintenance duties as required, including carpentry, painting and routine custodial work.
Maintains assigned vehicles, equipment and tools.
Performs all work in accordance with policies and procedures, laws and regulations, codes, plans, specifications, and standards of quality and safety.
Attends classes, seminars, meetings, etc., as necessary to enhance job knowledge and skills.
Responds to emergency situations, 24 hours per day / 7 days per week, as required.
Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, equipment manuals, safety sheets, blueprints, regulations, codes, electrical drawings, etc.
Operates a vehicle, mowers, backhoe, bulldozer, dump trucks, plant equipment, overhead crane, hydraulic lift, generators, shop equipment, various power tools, etc.; operates a telephone.
Uses mechanic's tools, electrician's tools, welding tools, carpentry tools, painting tools, safety equipment, meters, gauges, diagnostic tools, maintenance supplies and materials, miscellaneous hand tools, chemicals, etc.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other division / department heads and personnel, vendors, contractors and the general public.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Moves heavy furniture and other items as requested.
Assists with plant operations as necessary.
Picks up supplies as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks involve the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by four to six years of experience in mechanical / electrical maintenance and repair work, preferably in a public utilities' environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess valid state driver's license.
Must obtain and maintain State Certification for Backflow Prevention or Class A CDL license.
