Classification: Full-time, Hourly, Year-round
Job Title: Mechanic
Reports To: Fleet Supervisor
Hourly Rate: $16.97-$18.38 (Based on experience & education), year-round

Fleet Supervisor Job Goal
The Mechanic supports AJUSD's mission by providing support and technical expertise to the team that services and maintains our fleet. The successful applicant has a history of facilitating world class customer service and the safe transport of every rider.
Essential Duties and Functions
-
Coordinate and complete quality control preventative and corrective maintenance and repair service on all vehicles, ensuring all current safety regulations are met

Support the response to and provide support for vehicle breakdowns and accidents

Work with the transportation department and district staff to provide world-class customer service and ensure seamless operations to all riders and team members. This includes driving students should the need arise.

Create and maintain courteous relationships with all staff, vendors, and riders

Exercise positive problem solving behavior and conflict resolution skills

Maintain confidentiality by sharing sensitive staff information on a need to know basis

Demonstrates leadership by willingly understanding that other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Inspects buses and district vehicles for safety conformance.

Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

Starts devices to test their performance.
-
Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
-
Diagnoses trouble and performs required maintenance and repairs on buses and vehicles.

Repairs or replaces defective parts.

Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

Lubricates, adjusts and services equipment.

Sets up and operates brake drum lathe, valve refacing machine, brake riveting machine and tune-up machines.

May serve as relief driver.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
-
High School diploma or equivalent
-
Maintains a current CDL including bus driver certification
-
Minimum of two years experience in light, medium and heavy duty truck repair
-
ASE certification
-
Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel

Ability to analyze difficult situations
-
Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, and occasionally the public
-
Knowledge of and adherence to all AJUSD policies, regulations and rules related to: student transportation
Preferred Qualifications
-
First Aid, CPR certified within 90 days of hire.

ASE certified Master Bus Mechanic
-
Exemplary work experience performing similar duties and responsibilities

Positions in this department typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, sitting, finger or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, speaking, hearing, seeing (with correction), focusing ability, or other factors applicable to this job. Employees may be subject to travel, odors, dust, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, and loud noises. Duties require employee to drive a vehicle, be exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat or cold, wind and rain. Employees may be required to lift or exert up to 100 pounds of force to move objects occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force to move objects frequently. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
