Full Description

Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation's universities. Austin Achieve Public Schools is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our transportation team. As a vital member of our department, you'll help ensure the safety and reliability of our school bus fleet, directly supporting our mission to provide dependable transportation for our students. We're looking for a skilled Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of 30+ school buses. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with the rewarding opportunity to support student transportation in an educational environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on school buses
  • Complete general repairs on diesel engines, brake systems, and other mechanical components
  • Conduct diagnostic work to identify and resolve mechanical issues
  • Document all maintenance and repair work performed
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal safety regulations
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Respond to service calls as needed
  • Collaborate with transportation staff to optimize fleet performance
  • Administers and oversees contracts and procurement activities
  • Serves as knowledge expert in the area of assignment, overseeing, reviewing, and providing analyses and recommendations regarding function-specific and School-wide issues
  • Attends convenes and/or facilitates meetings
  • Participates in School meetings such as Weekly tactical dashboard, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic
  • Must possess own basic hand tools
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and bus mechanical systems
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Experience with diagnostic equipment and tools
  • Physical ability to lift to 50 pounds and work in various positions
  • Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Unwavering commitment to AAPS mission, scholars, families, and community
  • Humbly acknowledge one's strengths and weaknesses to grow professionally and push the mission of AAPS forward

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASE certifications
  • Experience working with school bus fleets
  • Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations
  • CDL license with School Bus endorsement
