Full Description

This position's responsibilities include teaching and assessing learning, institutional service, advising, and professional development. Working closely with the Electrical Distribution Engineering Technologies Program Coordinator, Adjunct EDET Instructors recruit students, teach, maintain program lab & equipment, and assist with development, coordination, and implementation of EDET degrees, programs, and courses. Courses are taught on evenings and Saturdays so Adjunct Instructors should have availability for such a schedule.

  • Create experiential learning opportunities and assessment techniques, (e.g., work-based and service learning; portfolio assessment, including developing and evaluation of learning portfolios, etc.). 
  • Recruit students into the EDET program.
  • Mentor new regular and adjunct faculty
  • Mentor students and assisting with job placement
  • Design semester course schedules in collaboration with the Program Coordinator
  • Maintain lab and program equipment
  • Training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for corporate and public partners)
  • Partner with colleagues (Workforce Development, Enrollment Management, Finance, and other department team members) to enhance services to students including recruiting and retention strategies.
  • Recommend and participate in marketing events and campaigns to promote college-wide degrees, programs, and courses
  • Monitor enrollment data and course attendance records; prepares reports
  • Recruit, interview, and recommend faculty and adjunct instructors; works with Program Coordinator to develop annual instructional staffing plan
  • Work with the Director of Career Advancement to integrate non-credit continuing education programs into engineering credit programs
  • Serve as a member of assigned committees and task forces; representing the College at events, conferences, and meetings
  • Foster collaborative partnerships with the community and the College
  • Participate in the strategic planning processes for the School of Workforce Development and Engineering Technologies
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

 Education

  • high school diploma or GED 

 

Experience

  • 8 years in utility line work as a lineman
  • 2+ years' experience in lineman training (Mentoring young Apprentices)
  • 5 years customer service (direct contact)
  • Experience in adult education, workforce training, and curriculum and instruction experience preferred

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

  • Must be able to climb wooden pole using fall restriction device and gaffs
  • Must have availability to work flexible days and hours (e.g., Saturday teaching schedule and evenings)
  • Computer skills- Microsoft Windows 10, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in an environment of rapid growth and change
  • Must be detail and deadline oriented with a solid background in program development, operations, management, and marketing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Licensure/Certification Required:   

  • Valid CDL or ability to get CDL within 6 months of start date
  • Completed apprenticeship program and achieved 1st Class Lineman ("A" Lineman)
  • Forklift certification

Adjunct pay scale ranges from $500-$700/credit hour commensurate with instructor degree level.
