Additional Information

Position Description: Reporting to the Logistics Lead, the Transportation Specialist role is responsible for safely transporting mobile and modular labs using a semi-tractor and/or flatbed trailer to various locations throughout the United States, on time. In this role you must present yourself and communicate in a professional manner at all times as a representative of Modular Devices. You should possess excellent mechanical, electrical, and hydraulics skills and be mechanically inclined. Excellent team player, who will work closely and often side by side with 3rd party laborers, customer contractors, local engineers, project managers and various other team members. When not on the road, duties for this role will entail working with our production team on tasks such as support framing, siding installation, window/door installation, trim prep/installation, drywall, painting, roofing, plumbing rough in, basic electric and more.

 

Essential job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Operates a semi-truck according to applicable state and federal transportation laws.
  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations including but not limited to size, weight, route designations, parking, and hours, as well as all company policies and procedures.
  • Transports medical labs and cleanrooms safely over land to various locations across the US, obeying all traffic laws and observing all safety regulations.
  • Maneuvers truck and trailer into loading and unloading areas; follows loading crew signals.
  • Plans routes, ensure required permits are gathered, and meets delivery schedules.
  • Collects and verifies delivery or pickup instructions.
  • Collaborates with production teams to ensure mobile and modular labs are packed correctly prior to delivery or pickup. Assist with any packing needed.
  • Documents and logs work/rest periods, miles spent driving and retail fuel/toll receipts.
  • Ensures labs are properly secured during the entire trip to avoid accidents and damage.
  • Maintains signed invoices, shipping bills of lading, and other required paperwork; delivers documentation to logistics office or other appropriate staff when delivery route is complete.
  • Reports defects, accidents, or violations immediately.
  • Arranges trailers in shipping yards for optimum loading patterns.
  • Inspects vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues.
  • Performs routine and preventative maintenance on trucks, which may include checking oil, water, gasoline, and air, reports maintenance malfunctions to Logistics Manager.
  • When not on the road, provides support to logistics department and production teams.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Valid Driver’s License with CDL-A with no automatic restrictions (must be able to drive manual transmission).
  • Experience with driving a 13 or 18 speed tractor is required.
  • Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly.
  • Excellent attendance is required with a flexible schedule that allows for deliveries and pickups on the customers time.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable truck driving rules and regulations.
  • No recent moving or driving violations
  • Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak professionally and courteously with customers and staff at delivery/pickup points.
  • Ability to remain focused in busy environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team when working in the shop on multifaceted projects in conjunction of day-to-day activities when not driving.
  • Resourceful, well organized, highly dependable, efficient, and adaptable.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently to meet commitments.
  • Highly communicative and able to manage multiple modes of communication.
  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. 
  • Ability to identify risk and flag concerns to management.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external customers at various levels of the organization.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Experience:

  • Over the road experience of 3-5 years is required.
  • Must hold required commercial driver’s license appropriate for weight of vehicle to be operated.
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • Must pass background and drug testing as required by federal and/or state department(s) of transportation regulations.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Remote Work: This role will primarily be driving a semi-tractor with trailer (loaded or unloaded), but when not driving will be working in the shop area (indoors and outside).

 

Additional requirements:

This is considered a full-time role with the expectation of irregular hours to meet the needs of our clients and our company. Employees, particularly truck drivers, may be required to work beyond the standard schedule to meet the deliverables and expectations of the role.
