Curriculum Specialist Job Description
Position Purpose:
- Under the general supervision of the Directors of Curriculum and Instruction to develop, coordinate, support and evaluate Carlsbad Municipal School District curriculum and to serve as a resource and consultant for instructional staff and principal's to improve students' success.
Qualifications Profile:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education.
- A valid New Mexico Level 3 License with endorsements and/or experience specific to the specialty area of the position.
- Five or more years of professional related experience in education as a teacher, coach and/or administrator.
- Proven interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and participate with staff and the public.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be substituted for other requirements.
Supervisor:
- Directors of Curriculum and Instruction
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Participate in or facilitate curriculum review committees.
- Select textbooks and other instructional materials for districtwide implementation.
- Develop, monitor and implement pacing guides grounded in NM Common Core Standards or other applicable NMPED standards.
- Set expectations for which parts of the curriculum must be covered within the school year.
- Stay informed of trends in instructional methods and educational technology.
- Assist teachers in incorporating new technology into their lessons.
- Provide feedback to building leaders and teachers based on student performance data.
- Use data to monitor district performance and implementation of the district's adopted curriculum as intended.
- Write grant proposals related to curriculum and instructional matters.
- Complete the annual instructional materials NMPED report.
- Address the needs of students by selecting materials and providing training in culturally and linguistically relevant instructional materials.
- Serve as a resource and contributing member of district/ school PLCs.
- Provide professional development for faculty and staff during the summer.
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the District Instructional Leadership Team.
- This position requires a 222 calendar year. It will require flexible days and hours inclusive of but not limited to some summer days for professional development and before and after the regular school day teacher contractual hours
