Job Title: CDL Substitute Teacher

Department: Family & Consumer Sciences - Child Development Laboratory

Reports To: Director, Child Development Laboratory

Location: On-site

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Time Requirements: 3.5 hours per day prn

Supervisory Responsibilities: none

Summary Description: The Substitute Teacher of the Child Development Laboratory will substitute for the Director or Lead Teacher as needed when one is absent for sickness, personal reasons, bereavement, conference days, or other necessary absences due to University or departmental needs. They will fulfill the classroom duties for the CDL staff member.

Essential Functions:

  • As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.
  • The Substitute Teacher of the Child Development Laboratory must navigate the TN-PAL website to complete childcare pre-employment training required by the Department of Human Services, complete a required background check, and an initial medical report.
  • The Substitute Teacher of the Child Development Laboratory will fulfill the classroom duties of the Director or Lead Teacher for whom they are substituting.
  • The Substitute Teacher of the Carson-Newman Child Development Laboratory is responsible for maintaining professionalism as a role model for practicum students, actively participating in the Early Childhood profession, and ensuring confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education: High school diploma; Bachelor's degree preferred

Experience: Minimum one year experience working with preschool age children

Required Skills: Classroom management, interpersonal, ability to adhere to developmentally appropriate guidelines
