Full Description

Department Public Works/Mechanical Maintenance Type of Position Full-time, Union Salary/Pay Rate $30.55 per hour Deadline to Apply ongoing MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS CDL A with air brake and tanker certifications required. Requires multifaceted, high-level, technical expertise encompassing vehicle maintenance, trouble-shooting, and rebuilding/reconstruction of all vehicles in the City's fleet. State certified Class 7 licensing in inspections and emissions and refrigerant recovery/recycling certification is required.

REQUIREMENTS Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test. NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED This position repairs and maintains a variety of makes and models of passenger automobiles, motorcycles, trucks and heavy and light public works vehicles and equipment; reports to the Fleet Manager.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED Inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and intricate rebuilding/ reconstructing of vehicles within the City's fleet; recovery/recycling refrigerants from motor vehicle air conditioners; maintaining motors at water and sewer pump stations throughout the City; providing inspections on policed-related accident investigations; performing changeovers to vehicles in police, fire and other units that may include installing radios, lights, computers, cages, etc. Must have knowledge of operating hydraulic press, machining brake drums and rotors, wheel balancing, front-end alignment, arc and mig welding, oxy acy burning and brazing, plasma cutter, recycling anti-free/Freon, auto body, framework, and painting on all equipment, computerized diagnostic equipment and scanning tools, and tow truck operation. Night and weekend hours are to be expected for stand-by, snow operations and other emergencies.

Must have knowledge of operating hydraulic press, machining brake drums and rotors, wheel balancing, front-end alignment, arc and mig welding, oxy acy burning and brazing, plasma cutter, recycling anti-free/Freon, auto body, framework, and painting on all equipment, computerized diagnostic equipment and scanning tools, and tow truck operation.
