Public Works Tech -Seasonal - Street Department

POSITION SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of construction, maintenance and cleaning duties; performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assists in installing, constructing, repairing and/or cleaning City buildings, streets and roads, floodwalls, sidewalks, storm sewers, culverts, catch basins, man-holes, drainage ditches, street signs, barricades, guard rails, etc.;
• Paints curbs and parking lines;
• Mows grass; collects leaves; cuts weeds, trees and tree limbs;
• Assists in salting/sanding streets and roads; removes snow;
• Assists in pouring concrete and making forms;
• Performs general construction and maintenance duties;
• Provide safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment;
• Ensure work area is clean and all equipment and tools are properly stored after use;
• Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies such as weather events, etc.;
• Operates Non-CDL required light and medium vehicles and equipment;
• Assists in performing public works duties in other Divisions as needed;
• Maintains clean and sanitary buildings, vehicles and equipment;
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must be capable of working periodic overtime and available to work on-call as scheduled.

Must be capable of understanding oral and written instructions.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

No previous work experience requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School graduate or the equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work involves standing, walking, stooping, and lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds outdoors regardless of weather conditions; must be able to perform manual labor for long periods of time. Exposed to machinery and its moving parts.
