Maintenance Worker

The City of Overland Park has a full-time Maintenance Worker position available in the Public Works Department. Starting pay is $18.45 or more per hour, depending on experience. Eligible for participation in NEW Snow Incentive Program.

Summary:

Basic skill level positions requiring the ability to operate light to moderately heavy vehicles and equipment, perform assigned repairs to city streets, sidewalks, catch basins and ditch liners, right-of-ways and related public works field facilities. Assists in the maintenance of traffic control services. Responds to emergency situations as required. Operates snow plowing equipment and participates in shift work during snow and ice removal.

Requirements:

• No High school diploma or equivalent required*
• Obtain a valid Class A commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months from date of hire.
• Obtain ATSSA or IMSA Construction Flagger and Work Zone Safety Certification within 12 months from date of hire.
• Must maintain an insurable driving record.
• One year or less of general construction experience to include the operation of light to moderately heavy construction equipment and vehicles including two-ton dump truck, or an equivalent level of experience.
• Familiarity with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) is preferred.
• This education requirement modified for Pilot Program.

No City residency requirement.

Must successfully pass a background check, drug screen, physical exam and essential functions test.

Normal Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m., Mon.-Fri.

Salary Range: Grade A $18.89 - $25.19

This position also participates in the NEW Snow Program Incentive:

Bonus of $500 per season ($100 per month) for all responders

Dynamic Pay for Active Participation:

Active Duty Pay Differential

• CDL + $14.00 per hour
• Non-CDL + $7.00 per hour
• Support + $3.00 per hour
