BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

This is an unpaid internship position in the Cypress Water Purification Laboratory. The purpose of this internship is to gain experience in testing chemical and biological characteristics of water samples. This is accomplished by running daily tests on tap and raw water samples (surface water, Wichita River, wastewater effluent, and unknowns). This internship will be split, with time spent working in the microbiology lab and time spend working in the analytical lab.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must have, or be in the process of obtaining, a BS in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.

Employees of this class must wear a self-contained breathing apparatus, thus facial hair is prohibited.

This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.

Specific internship projects will depend on the successful candidate's skills, education, and career interests.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice

2 M Collects samples on pre-determined daily, monthly, and quarterly schedules, and recording data on logs.

Formal Education Applicant must have, or be in the process of obtaining, a BS in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related field. Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature.
