Position Summary
The Driver makes safe, professional, and timely food pickups, deliveries, and distributions while building strong relationships with donors, partner agencies, and food recipients. Daily assignments vary based on qualifications and operational need - drivers may operate Class A or Class B vehicles, run mobile distributions, or support warehouse operations. Class A CDL holders are eligible for Class A route assignments; all drivers are eligible for Class B routes and mobile distributions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Executes assigned pickup, delivery, and distribution schedules safely and on time.
- Follows food handling procedures and health and safety regulations for all collections and distributions.
- Loads and unloads trucks using electric pallet jack or forklift; operates 4,500 lb capacity lift gate; accurately counts and records all loads.
- Notifies dispatch of schedule completion, delays, or issues.
- Completes all required paperwork and recordkeeping.
- Conducts pre- and post-trip truck inspections, checks fluids daily, and coordinates preventative maintenance.
- Maintains trucks in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition; completes weekly warehouse cleaning assignments.
- Acknowledges receipt of donations per operating procedure and reports donor, food, or site concerns promptly.
- Stays current on DOT and Connecticut CMV regulations.
- Maintains HOS, DVIR, and route planning via electronic logging device; monitors company email daily.
- Available for occasional early morning, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Mobile Distribution (when assigned)
- Determines food quantities based on estimated guest count at each site.
- Sets up and breaks down mobile distribution sites, including outdoor loading and unloading.
- Partners with site coordinators and volunteers to ensure an efficient, welcoming experience for guests.
- Delivers outstanding service to distribution sites and neighbors in need.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Class B CDL with a clean driving record. (Class A CDL required for Class A vehicle assignments.)
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ months of CDL Class A or B driving experience.
- Pallet jack and/or forklift certification.
