Salary Range: $69,000 - $92,000

More About the Role:
Mecklenburg County Storm Water Services acquires floodprone properties throughout Mecklenburg County to mitigate flood risks toproperty and life. In addition, Storm Water Services performs stream andriparian capital improvement projects utilizing natural channel design, torestore the function of streams and floodplains.This position will lead a team that performs routineinspection and maintenance activities on County floodplain property, capitalimprovement projects, storm water control measures, and other routine functionsassociated with storm water conveyance systems.

What Will I be Doing:
This position will lead a team of Storm Water Operatorsin performing such activities including physical and chemical vegetationmanagement; capital project inspection, maintenance, and repair; medium toheavy equipment operation; maintaining storm water conveyance systems; tree assessment,removal, and replacement when necessary; coordinating resources andfacilitating staff growth and development. This position will also beresponsible for administrative duties related to managing staff includingapproving time sheets, managing workplans, etc.

This position works with a wide range of engineers,project managers, biologists, environmental professionals, regulatory agencies,non-profit organizations, contractors, and the general public to facilitateprogram goals and objectives.

Position Summary
Performs supervisory, technical and skilled work directing the work of a unit engaged in construction,
maintenance & repair of the public stormwater management system including inspection of facilities. This
position is responsible for scheduling, assigning, and inspecting the work of storm water operators within
the environmental division.

Essential Functions
Determine, schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority,
quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel
Inspect and monitor work areas, examines tools and equipment, and provides employee safety
training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules
Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings.
Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.
Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts
Inspect, test, and measure completed work, using devices such as hand tools or gauges to verify
conformance to standards or repair requirements
Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational
procedures, or equipment use
Develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures
Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate
working conditions
Perform skilled operation, repairs, or perform maintenance of light equipment such as hand or
power tools, hydraulic presses or shears, or welding equipment
Participate in budget preparation and administration, coordinating purchasing and documentation
and monitoring departmental expenditures
Interpret specifications, blueprints, or job orders to construct templates and lay out reference
points for workers

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum of five years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment related to the areas of
assignment including some construction experience.

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted?: No

Licenses and Certifications
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
Requires County Driving Privileges

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of
Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this
equipment
Safe work practices and hazards associated with work
Use of the tools, equipment, supplies, and methods used in storm water activities
Advanced knowledge of procedures and practices to analyze and resolve unusual or difficult
problems

schedules, etc
