At Cranemasters, everything we do is Better by Design. We're seeking a hands-on Assistant Division Manager to support operations, safety, and performance for emergency derailments, specialty lifting, car repair, load adjust/transfer, and track maintenance/new builds. This role combines leadership with field engagement to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
What to Expect
This is a working leadership role with frequent travel and on-call availability. You'll be actively engaged in the field, often on uneven terrain and in all weather conditions. Extended shifts, physical activity, and emergency response are part of the job. You'll assist the Division Manager in overseeing Supervisors and ensuring compliance with safety standards, DOT regulations, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Division Manager in all operational, technical, and administrative activities.
Assign and monitor projects, ensuring compliance with schedule, budget, and safety standards.
Provide leadership and mentorship to Supervisors, reinforcing Cranemasters' safety culture.
Respond to field calls and resolve on-site issues promptly.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of reports, payroll data, and project documentation.
Assist in forecasting staffing needs, equipment purchases, and budget planning.
Build strong relationships with customers and regulatory agencies (FRA, EPA, first responders).
Attend customer meetings and industry events to support growth opportunities.
Participate in hiring, training, and performance management for division employees.
Monitor equipment readiness and coordinate maintenance with the Shop Manager.
Remain on-call and able to report to the assigned shop within one hour when needed.
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive experience in the railroad industry.
Solid knowledge of DOT and FRA regulations, permitting, and safety policies.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in MS Office and operational software.
Valid driver's license (Class A/B CDL preferred).
Technical skills in operating cranes, trucks, trailers, and other heavy equipment.
Ability to read crane load charts and understand rigging and freight car components.
Ability to work extended hours, in all weather conditions, and lift up to 50 lbs.
