Position Title CDL Instructor (Douglas Campus) Job Description

Position:

Full-time, 12 months annually, FLSA exempt, benefitted, classified staff, C41, location is Douglas Campus. Travel is required.

Start Date: 07/01/2025

Essential Duties: Under the direction of the Director of the CDL Program:

  • Prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
  • Ensure safety operation of vehicle(s) at all times
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning environments
  • Prepare classroom and (off campus) range for class activities
  • Ensure vehicle(s) are in safe operating conditions at all times
  • Complete maintenance report forms to supervisor
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction
  • Observe and evaluate the progress of individual students, maintaining accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, polices and school regulations
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed in the lab and classroom
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Maintain daily attendance sheet
  • Perform certain support functions including student support, counseling with students with academic problems and providing student encouragement
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students and supervisor(s) regarding student progress and needs
  • Keep up to date with developments in subject area
  • Ensure program operates in accordance with policies and procedure, OSHA Hazardous Communication, FERPA, state law and applicable standards
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, and/or emergencies to the required entities, per procedure
  • Comply with College procedures and practices related to instructional delivery, assessment, and reporting requirements to include records management
  • Perform all other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, including pending legislative changes
  • Knowledge of double clutching techniques, air brake testing procedures, hours of service regulations, log book processes-paper and electronic, pre-trip/post-trip inspections, coupling and uncoupling equipment
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices for working with adult learners, or willingness to learn these
  • Knowledge of basic, or willingness to learn, office equipment including (but not limited to) personal computer, fax machine, multi-line telephone, copy machine, printer
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize personal computing applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite, or willingness to learn
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to plan and deliver instructional presentations, monitor student understanding, and adjust to meet individual needs
  • Ability to prepare and communication clear educational objective while presenting current and accurate course content, utilizing effective delivery skills (e. g., Eye contact, voice intonation, and various questioning techniques)
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, assemble and organize data, and tor prepare reports
  • Ability to establish a professional student-instructor relationship conducive to learning and promote active involvement in learning activities
  • Ability to maintain a professional teaching environment, utilize patience when teaching, and maintain student confidentiality

Salary Hire Amount:

$52,000.00 annually

Required Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of HS diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of truck driving experience
  • Valid CDL Class A License, with preferred endorsements of Double/Triple (T), Tank Vehicle (N),
  • Current DOT Medical Card
  • Willingness to obtain preferred endorsements
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and periodic screenings
  • Must maintain a clean DVM record and be insurable by EWC's insurance
