School Bus Driver Trainee
The School Bus Driver Trainee participates in a comprehensive entry level school bus operations training program consisting of both classroom and behind-the-wheel training. The School Bus Driver Trainee learns fundamental skills in school bus safety, school transportation law, student management, and safe on-road operation of a school bus. Upon successful completion of this limited duration training program, the candidate may be promoted to School Bus Driver or Substitute School Bus Driver with a corresponding increase in pay.
This is a part-time position working not more than 15 hours per week.
Normal hours are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. during the training period (Typically 3-4 weeks)
Work hours are subject to occasional adjustment.
Rate of pay is $10.00 per hour.
This position reports to the Transportation Supervisor or designee.
Normal job duties would include, but not be limited to:
- Learning and developing a "100% safety" mindset as it relates to the transportation of students
- Learning and developing effective and appropriate student management skills
- Learning the safe operation of a school bus, including pre-trip inspections post-trip inspections, and driving skills
- Learning and developing appropriate two-way radio communications skills
- Completing all requirements to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with "P" and "S" endorsements
Minimum requirements include:
- 25 years of age or older
- A high school diploma or GED
- Criminal background check
- Pre-employment drug screen
- Ability to use telephone and two-way radio
- Read, write, and speak the English language
