Full Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the District's curriculum and extracurricular programs. To provide routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of school vehicles.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

High school diploma or equivalent desired

Special Knowledge/Skills: (May be required after hiring)

B-CDL license with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Annual physical exam

School bus driver certificate

Minimum Experience:

1 year as a technician or bus driver

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Service, fuel, maintain, wash and clean all school vehicles in the best condition possible.
  • Maintain a program of preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
  • Available to drive routes, know stops, and is able to maintain time schedule.
  • Respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
  • Follow safety codes and standards.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and serve as role model for all district staff.
  • Keep informed of and comply with all state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.

Mental Demands:

Reading; ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data.

Ability to concentrate in noisy situations.

Ability to work with children of all ages.

Ability to maintain emotion under stress.

Physical Demands:

Strenuous walking, standing, bending over. Work outside and inside, exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials, slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Work alone. Frequent district-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours, and possible weekend work. Ability to conduct on-site inspections of all vehicles for safety and maintenance operations.
