The CDL A Operator performs equipment operation and field support duties while also operating Class A commercial vehicles to transport equipment, materials, and crews for railroad mechanical, maintenance, and E&C operations. This position requires advanced driving skills, equipment knowledge, and a high level of safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment on railroad projects
Drive Class A CDL vehicles including tractor-trailers and lowboys
Transport heavy equipment, materials, and supplies to and from job sites
Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections and maintain DOT-required logs
Secure and load equipment in compliance with DOT regulations
Assist crews with construction, maintenance, and mechanical tasks
Perform routine equipment checks and report maintenance issues
Follow FRA, DOT, OSHA, and company safety regulations
Maintain jobsite cleanliness and organization
Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment
Combination of CDL driving and active field equipment operation
Outdoor railroad environments with exposure to traffic, trains, and heavy equipment
Physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
Acceptable driving record per DOT and company standards
Experience operating heavy construction or railroad equipment
Ability to perform physically demanding work in all weather conditions
Willingness to travel and work variable schedules
Preferred Qualifications
Railroad contracting or heavy civil construction experience
Experience hauling oversized loads or specialized equipment
Railroad safety certifications or willingness to obtain
