WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking an energetic and experienced high school educator to serve as the Head Girls Track Coach and classroom teacher at Palmview High School. The successful candidate will be a role model for student-athletes, a leader in instruction, and an advocate for discipline, academic excellence, and athletic growth.
This dual-role educator-coach will:
- Deliver effective, student-centered classroom instruction aligned with La Joya ISD academic goals
- Develop and lead a competitive girls track and field program emphasizing discipline, conditioning, and skill development

- Inspire student-athletes to excel both on the track and in the classroom

Qualifications
Education/ Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (required)
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in any secondary content area (required)
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements (preferred for team transportation)
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification and completion of UIL-required safety trainings (must be current or obtained prior to start of coaching duties)
Experience:
- Prior teaching experience at the secondary level
- Coaching experience in track and field required; head coaching or lead coordinator experience preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of all track and field events, training cycles, and athlete safety
- Ability to design a program that develops athletes across multiple events and grade levels
- Knowledge of UIL rules, eligibility compliance, and athletic scheduling
- Demonstrated leadership and commitment to fostering a high-achieving athletic program aligned with La Joya ISD's Coaching Standards and Code of Ethics
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional - High School Teacher
- Plan and deliver TEKS-aligned instruction using La Joya ISD-approved resources (e.g., DMAC)
- Address the academic needs of all students, including ELLs, students with disabilities, and at-risk learners
- Collaborate with colleagues through PLCs and campus instructional planning
- Engage families in student academic and behavioral progress
- Promote college, career, and military readiness through daily instruction
Athletic - Head Girls Track Coach
- Lead the girls track and field program across all levels-varsity and sub-varsity
- Develop year-round training, strength, and conditioning programs aligned to district standards
- Plan and execute daily practices, meet strategies, and athlete development
- Assign roles to assistant coaches and ensure alignment with program expectations
- Oversee team travel, meet registration, equipment, and budget management
- Monitor academic eligibility through Skyward and support student-athlete progress
- Build a strong feeder pipeline through collaboration with middle school coaches
- Represent Palmview High School and La Joya ISD with professionalism, sportsmanship, and pride
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties as assigned by campus administration or athletic department
- Adhere to all La Joya ISD board policies, procedures, and administrative regulations
Compensation
- Teacher Salary: Based on the La Joya ISD Teacher Pay Scale, determined by verified years of experience and certifications
- Coaching Stipend: Annual stipend per the La Joya ISD Athletics Stipend Schedule (Head Coach - Girls Track)
Working Conditions
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to supervise athletic practices, demonstrate drills, and travel with student-athletes
- Physical stamina required for extended hours during game days, tournaments, and training periods
Work Environment:
- Classroom, gymnasium, and athletic facilities
- Evening and weekend duties expected, especially during basketball season
- Regular contact with students, parents, coaching staff, and community members
