  • Washington State Law requires that any person hired by a school district must be fingerprinted for a state and a national background check. Receipt of the clearance is a requirement for employment. Are you willing to submit to a criminal history background check? The record check shall include a fingerprint check with the cost, currently $50.00, borne by the employee.

Job Qualifications

Essential Functions:

  • Participate as a team member with responsibility for the identification, eligibility, and placement of speech and language impaired students.
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students and to meet individual student needs.
  • Develop therapy schedules and provide Speech Language Pathology (SLP) services for students with speech and language impairments from preschool through age 21 in accordance with their IEP.
  • Evaluate, implement, and monitor augmentative communication devices for appropriate students including devices for deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction based upon individual student IEP goals.
  • Recognize individual student learning and cultural needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement/success.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement and meeting special education laws and policies.
  • Participate in and facilitate various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies.
  • Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by state and federal regulations and district policy.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff and SLPA.
  • Consult and collaborate in developing and maintaining positive relationships among students, parents and teachers, and involving them in assessment, interventions, and program evaluation procedures.
  • Integrate and interpret the steps and processes involved in implementing Board policies and other appropriate laws used in determining students' program and service needs.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence; participate in ongoing professional development in order to keep skills and knowledge current with changes in curriculum, technology and/or district policies.
  • Fulfill legal responsibilities, implement, and comply with federal and state laws, district policies and other guiding principles, and State Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform other duties of similar scope and function.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

PREFERRED:

Experience working with students with limited English proficiency and multicultural, global, and interdisciplinary education; teaching experience; knowledge of public school operations; valid Washington State driver's license.

LICENSE:

Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate as a Speech Language Pathologist

Knowledge of State and Federal laws in assigned area.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Full time position. Leave benefits and medical benefits are per negotiated LEA agreement. Salary as per LEA negotiated agreement. An extended day contract will be offered.
