- Must maintain a valid CDL - Class A license and DOT physical.
- Work hours are based on Live Haul schedules, the employee must be present and on time according to the Live Haul schedule.
- Ensure equipment is operational and safe for transporting ducks via daily Pretrip Inspections and frequent Walk Arounds. Fill the vehicle with fuel, DEF, oils, coolant as needed. Fix very minor issues and report issues to Shop Personnel.
- Maintain logs via Logbooks or ELD in compliance with DOT regulations.
- Obey all traffic laws and drive safely I accordance with current conditions
- Moves vehicles in accordance with Defensive Driving Techniques
- Adhere to Duck Care and Duck Handling Guidelines to which they are certified and re-certified on an annual basis.
- Loading live process aged ducks onto company owned vehicles in a manner that is safe to the ducks and employee in accordance with the Duck Well Being Guidelines.
- Communicate effectively along lines of the chain of command, as well as other drivers, shop and Holding House personnel.
- Assist other drivers or the Holding House with loading or unloading.
- Employee must assist Holding House or DC Management with truck/trailer movement requirements.
- Maintain high level of cleanliness and biosecurity within the cab of the truck. Follow bio-security policies in terms of premise entry, flock scheduling and exposure to other poultry or swine.
- Performs related duties as required
Skills And Abilities:
- ability to operate equipment and maintain a CDL Class A license.
- Knowledge of established standard operating procedures and company policies.
- Must be certified on operations of safety; duck well- being and biosecurity guidelines.
- Ability to operate equipment safely.
- Be able to work effectively with others; communicate along all levels & direct staff as required.
- can resolve minor problems related to loading and unloading ducks, equipment operation required to meet operational objectives within guidelines, and company policy.
- certified through defensive driving training.
