Purpose of the Role:

As a CDL Driver at McGill in Waverly, VA, you'll play a key role in supporting our operations by safely transporting organic materials and finished products that contribute to soil restoration and environmental sustainability. You'll operate commercial vehicles to move materials between job sites, customers, and facilities while ensuring compliance with all DOT regulations and company safety standards. This role is essential to keeping operations running efficiently and delivering high-quality service to our customers.

Compensation for this role includes $0.51 per mile, along with a $17.50 dumping fee per load, offering earning potential based on productivity and route completion.

You take pride in operating commercial vehicles safely and responsibly, knowing that every load you transport supports the production of high-quality compost, mulch, and soil products. You show up prepared-focused on completing routes efficiently, securing loads properly, and maintaining a clean and well-functioning vehicle. You remain attentive on the road and at job sites, recognizing that safety is the top priority for yourself, your team, and the community.

You communicate clearly with dispatch and team members, ensuring deliveries and pickups stay on schedule. You are proactive in identifying potential mechanical or safety issues and take ownership of maintaining your equipment. Whether you're navigating routes, coordinating with site personnel, or assisting with loading and unloading, you understand your work is essential in transforming organic waste into valuable resources.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate CDL vehicles to transport organic materials, compost, mulch, and soil products safely and efficiently
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any maintenance needs
  • Ensure loads are properly secured and compliant with safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate logs, delivery records, and required documentation
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safety policies
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and internal team members
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed
  • Maintain cleanliness and routine care of assigned vehicle and equipment
  • Perform additional duties or projects as assigned by Team Lead and/or Management
Qualifications:
  • Valid CDL Class A or B license required
  • Acceptable driving record with commitment to safe driving practices
  • Ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in non-climate-controlled areas
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to teamwork
  • Prior experience in hauling, waste, or construction materials preferred
  • Dependable transportation to and from assigned facility

Execute assigned routes efficiently, manage time effectively, and ensure on-time delivery and pickup of materials.
Equipment Care

Maintain assigned vehicle in good working condition by performing daily checks and reporting issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Communication and Teamwork

Work closely with dispatch, site teams, and customers through clear communication and a collaborative mindset.
Reliability and Accountability

Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and ownership of daily responsibilities.
Environmental Stewardship

Handle materials responsibly to support McGill's sustainability mission and reduce waste, spills, and environmental impact.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods while driving, as well as stand, walk, reach, and use hands and arms to handle equipment and materials. The employee may frequently climb in and out of vehicles, bend, stoop, and move about job sites, including uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance and may be required to push, pull, or maneuver materials during loading and unloading. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work Environment:

Work is conducted both on the road and at indoor and outdoor job sites. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, odors, noise, traffic conditions, heavy equipment in operation, and varying or extreme weather conditions. Terrain may be uneven or muddy, and lighting conditions may vary. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including high-visibility apparel, safety footwear, gloves, and other required gear, will be provided and must be worn in designated areas.

When applicable, employees required to wear a respirator must complete company-provided medical evaluations and fit testing and maintain compliance with all training requirements.
