Vehicle Mechanic
Transportation Department

Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is accepting applications for a Vehicle Mechanic in the Transportation Department. The Vehicle Mechanic assists the Shop Foreman in maintaining the school board fleet of school buses and other motor vehicles and equipment in a state of operating efficiency for the safety of our students and employees, and to prevent interruptions to the educational programs to the extent possible. Special care is to be given to vehicle components that could produce a life-threatening situation if damaged and not repaired.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge and mechanical experience on diesel and gasoline engines necessary to maintain school buses, trucks, vans, cars, tractors, and small engine equipment
- Virginia Commercial Driver's license (CDL), Class B with air brakes required. License must have S and P endorsements or technician must be able to obtain them immediately upon hire
- Valid Virginia State Inspector license or be eligible to obtain one immediately upon hire
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Satisfactory DMV driving record
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to quickly and calmly respond to emergency situations
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASE School Bus Technician certification
- Knowledge and ability to operate a tow truck for fleet vehicles preferred
- Technical school or diesel college degree preferred
FLSA: Exempt
SALARY: $49,389.39 - $78,576.37 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience
