ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Provide refuse and household collection by driving assigned routes through residential streets on automated or rear loader/recycle truck as scheduled. Serve as crew leader and work any mandatory overtime to maintain department operations.

  • Operates automated and rear loader vehicle on assigned routes throughout the city to collect refuse and recyclables.
  • Disposes of collected material at J.C. Elliott Transfer Station, Cefe Valenzuela Landfill, and at recycling facility.
  • Performs pre-and-post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle, making minor adjustments/repair or documenting need for Mechanic attention, and prepares daily trip reports.
  • Provides oversight of assigned Refuse Collector crew, providing instruction and monitoring performance.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • No education required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work related experience
  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
  • The City of Corpus Christi offers a CDL driver training program for applicants hired as Heavy Equipment Operators. Selected candidates without a CDL at time of hire must complete program successfully within 90 days of hire.
  • The CDL training program is designed to prepare participants to pass the Texas written and driving tests required to obtain a CDL license.
  • Participants are required to sign a training agreement to remain in a position with the City requiring a CDL license for at least 24 months or reimburse the cost of the training program to the City.

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
