School Counselor North Bend Middle School
1 FTE, 191 Days, with extended contract available Annual Salary: $49,130.00 - $84,450.00
Reports to: Buliding Principal
Job Goal: To provide information and services to assist students in making educational, occupational, and life plans that will allow students to reach their potential for academic growth.
Essential Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability needed for this position. Minimum Bachelor's Degree and full Oregon State licensure, with endorsement in school counseling at the High School level. Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, teachers and community members Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with student, staff and/or parent information Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds Ability to work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing Perform physical requirements necessary for the job (which may include):
Moderate to extensive degree of physical and emotional stamina Frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting Frequent and prolonged talking/hearing conversations Possess near/far visual acuity/depth perception Possible exposure to bodily fluids in assisting students with using rest rooms and in tending to injury and illness
Such alternative to the above requirements as the School Board or the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned): Assessment of Student, Family, and School Needs Promotes services to student and their families within the context of multicultural understanding and competence that enhance families' support of students learning experiences Provides services to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offers students maximum opportunities to participate in the planning and direction of their own learning experience Assists students and their families to gain access to formal and informal community resources. Uses resources to facilitate an understanding of factors in the home, local education agency, and community that affect students' educational experiences Consults on such issues as attendance, confidentiality, ethnicity and diversity, mental health, behavior management, discipline, crisis intervention and child abuse and neglect Forecasting with students Participation in 504 meetings Attend IEP meetings as necessary Counseling students as needed and making appropriate referrals as necessary Working with Department of Youth Services and coordinating plans with their clients Working with Department of Human Services and cases of abuse and coordinating services Encourages students to set and maintain appropriate standards of school behavior Attends meetings and serves on committees as directed Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration.
Preferred Licenses, Registrations, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsements, if required Pre-employment drug screening required Possess a valid First Aid card, if required Possess a valid Oregon Driver's License, if required Blood borne Pathogens Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training, if required
