Job Description:

Applicants must have held valid, infraction-free CDL A for a minimum of the last three years. Criminal record must be completely clean. (FBI and BCI background checks are performed prior to employment.) Candidates should have supervisory backgrounds or instructional experience (though lack of such does not necessarily negate consideration).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Instructors should have solid knowledge of local, state and federal rules/regulations concerning CDL A vehicle operation, particularly within State of Ohio. Experience with tractor-trailers (both manual and automatic) is requisite. Must know and be able to share safe practices involved in the operation of CDL A vehicles.

• Must be able to safely drive and control manual and automatic CDL A vehicles. Instructors must be able to lead from four to eight students at a time in classroom and "skills pad" maneuvers.

• Strength and flexibility required (climbing in and out of cab, lowering and raising trailer components). Speaking clearly essential for class instruction. Ability to explain and clarify presentation points and answer questions. Moderate computer abilities required for operation of Microsoft Office components. Mechanical knowledge not a must but a valued addition.

Essential Functions:

• Candidate will instruct students in safe operation of both manual and automatic CDL A tractor-trailer combinations.

• Must be professional as person is representing the college. Be able to present well in front of an audience and engage students. Maintain both attire and grooming standards. Candidate should enjoy interacting with students of all ages and be free of judgments and negative commentary. Positive attitudes are sought!

Minimum Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

• Three years of CDL A experience requisite.

• Truck-driving background (specifically CDL A-based) sought. Experience and training as instructor a bonus.

• Commercial Driver License (CDL) A.
