CDL-A OTR Driver Pay Overview

• Earnings. The average driver earns about $79,500 a year, and our top 20% average $102,600.*
• 52-68CPM. Base pay rises with your experience, and bonuses stack on top.*
• Safety bonus. 2CPM for clean inspections and on-time appointments.
• Production bonus. 2CPM when you run 10,500 miles in a month, or 3CPM at 13,000.
• Stability pay. Get paid for your track record: 1CPM for 1-2 years with your past two employers, 2CPM for 3-5 years, and 3CPM for 5+ years.
• Retention bonus. $2,000 in your first year, paid as $500 every 90 days.
• Paid for your time. $20hr detention after 2 hours, $75 layover or breakdown pay after 24 hours, $20 per extra stop, and $25 for chaining.

As of Oct. 2026. Earnings are based on 2026 year-to-date gross pay for full-time OTR drivers, projected over 12 months, including base pay, bonuses and accessorial pay. The middle 60% of drivers earn $67,100-$92,000. Base pay is 52-60CPM by years of driving experience: 52CPM (6 months-4 years), 55CPM (5-14 years), 58CPM (15-20 years) and 60CPM (20+ years). Not guaranteed; pay varies by experience and performance. Bonuses and benefits are subject to eligibility and plan terms.
