Why become a bus driver?

• Full-time bus drivers starting salary is $28,076 (including $700 salary incentive) for nine months of employment and are eligible for full benefits and retirement

• Substitute drivers presently make $160 per day

• Increases to $165 per day effective August 1, 2025

• Highest pay rate in the state for substitute drivers

• Receive training and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at no cost

• Get summers and holidays off; work 9 months out of the year and get STPPS school holidays off

New Incentives for bus drivers:

• Bus Drivers new to STPPS, entering their first year or with prior experience, will receive an additional two steps to their salary. This results in a $700 salary increase.
• We will now pay for the CDL fee if a bus driver new hire works for our district for 90 work days.
• We will now pay for bus driver new hires to complete "Behind the Wheel Training". If a bus driver new hire works for our district for 90 work days, they will receive retroactive substitute pay for the three (3) days of "Behind the Wheel Training" ($160 per day; $480 total).

Requirements:

• Must be 21 years old
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Background check and Pre-screening
• State Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
• LA Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Airbrake, Passenger and School Bus endorsements*
• CDL Physical Examination*
• Please note: you do not have to have your CDL License to start the certification process, but will need to obtain it before completion of the certification process.
