Primary Purpose of Position:

Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? The NC State Parks has a Maintenance Construction Technician IV position available. This role is responsible for maintaining state park grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. This position assists park rangers and additional maintenance staff performing custodial duties, park boundary line clearing and maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing, trimming, prescribed burns and/or auto mechanics. DisasterRecoveryJob

Key Responsibilities included but are not limited to: 

  • Performing a variety of skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operating various large and small tools and equipment.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining preventative maintenance on various tools, equipment and facilities.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Providing housekeeping duties.
  • Supervising temporary and/or permanent employees including various volunteers.

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions.

  • Must be ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and/or holidays when necessary.

  • Position is considered "Essential/Mandatory Staff" and required to work on adverse weather days, during park emergencies, and may be called to work on special events.

  • Typically work schedule is Monday- Friday 7am - 4pm, weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required. 

Within 90 days of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:

  • Must meet DOA Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License to drive a state vehicle.

Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:

  • Class A CDL

  • CPR Certification

  • C-Well Drinking water certification

  • Sub Surface Septic Licenses

  • Emergency Medical Responder Certification

  • Wild Land Fire Suppression Certifications

  • Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.

To receive credit for your work history and credentials, you must provide the information on the application form.   • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and care of grounds maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors, weed eaters and/or chainsaw
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and equipment.

Management Preference: 

  • Experience supervising maintenance and construction staff

High school or General Educational Development diploma 

AND

two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades; 

OR 

an equivalent combination of education and experience.
