GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

In this position, you'll greet customers, assist with questions, and oversee the testing and issuance of ID cards, driver licenses, and commercial driver licenses (CDLs). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.

Provides service to and interacts with the general public in professional and courteous manner, even during stressful and difficult situations; answers general questions pertaining to applications for various types of driver licenses and identification cards, questions pertaining to traffic laws, driver license, commercial driver license, and traffic laws, driver education, insurance requirements and organ donation.

Receives, reviews, and issues all types of licenses, permits, identification cards, disabled placards, and concealed firearms permit applications, revisions, and renewals.

Determines applicants' eligibility for licensing by making inquiries and properly interpreting responses received through the state and national computer information systems.

Screens applicant's physical, mental, and visual abilities to safely operate motor vehicles per state and federal law.

Administers computer-assisted written and vision tests, or other tests to applicants. Schedules applicants for driving skills tests.

Administers driving skills test examinations. Performs vehicle inspections prior to driving skills testing.

Advises applicants of suspensions, cancellations, and revocations, and advises how to reinstate their driving privileges.

Accurately enters, processes, tracks, and reviews driver license and permit, identification card, disabled placard, and concealed firearms permit data into appropriate computer applications, databases, and systems; operates signature and photo capture devices.

Collects appropriate fees for services and prepares receipts; ensures and accepts accountability per state policy that monies received balance with receipts issued.

Researches and communicates information related to license and permit requirements to the general public, agency staff, law enforcement, courts, other states, and government and elected officials; answers questions and explains licensing and permit requirements; accurately interprets driving record data, and supplies information regarding license and permit processing, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
-
Knowledge of Driver Services operations manual, rules, and regulations.

Knowledge of pertinent federal policies and procedures, as well as state statutes.

Knowledge of the Driver License Information System.

Knowledge of detecting fraudulent documents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
2-4years of progressive work experience (typically in Business)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None
OR
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Business)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in business)
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Requires frequent travel.

Temporary employees accepting a full-time position.

Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.

One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive; funds will be recouped from final pay.

Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.

Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
-
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
