Full Description
Syracuse University is actively hiring an Evening Transportation Supervisor in its Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) department. This position will supervise and coordinate key transportation services provided by Syracuse University and a team of drivers.This position will report to the Transportation Manager and work in close collaboration with other members of the PTS management team. Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to, scheduling, routing, event coordination, as related to providing safe, consistent, efficient, and high-quality transportation services to the University community.This position will have a high expectation to ensure optimal safety of vehicle operations and driver accountability. Duties will include coordinating coverage and filling shifts due to absences. Other duties include compiling ridership data and responding to customer requests.
Education and Experience
- Associates degree or equivalent experience required.
- Ability to maintain a valid NYS driver's license. A Valid CDL with endorsements is preferred.
- Experience with vehicle communication, video, GPS, and routing systems.
- Experience with managing staff.
- Experience driving passenger vehicles with a CDL requirement.
- Basic computer and administrative skills.
- Employment is contingent upon successful passage of a drug screening, completion of a thorough background check (post-offer), which includes a check of criminal conviction history.
- Upon hire, candidates must submit to drug screening.
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with additional hours during events.
Responsibilities
- With a focus on exceptional customer service, using innovation and a solution-oriented approach, provides supervision and coordination of evening, weekend and overnight transportation services provided by Syracuse University drivers in the Department of Parking and Transportation Services.
- Collaborates with the Manager of Transportation on all transportation and logistical areas including but not limited to, scheduling, routing, and event coordination, to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality transportation services to the University community.
- Manages schedules for evening, overnight and weekend driver shifts as necessary to ensure continuity of campus transportation services.
- Frequently coordinates and supervises transportation staffing in advance of and during events.
- Focusing on consistency and operational efficiency, performs administrative functions including, but not limited to, performance management, documentation of hours worked, payroll coordination and compilation of ridership data.
- Responsible for coordinating coverage and filling shifts due to absences during evening, overnight and weekend schedules.
- Oversees the daily and preventive maintenance, cleaning and fueling of fleet vehicles.
- Conducts regular vehicle inspections in accordance with applicable regulations and University policies.
- Reports and maintains log of incidents/problems through appropriate procedures established by the department; conducts root cause analyses to proactively address and prevent future issues.
- Fuels vehicles in accordance with University standards.
- Operates vehicle communication systems within guidelines of University policies.
- Manages programming of routes in GPS tracking and map systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
