Responsibilities:
- Drives trucks to transport material/equipment to and from specified destinations.
- Responsible for hauling 9-13 axles with a 3-4 axle truck, a 2-3 axle jeep, a 3-4 axle trailer, and a 1-3 axle booster.
- The Heavy Haul Truck Driver needs to be able to handle single flip-axles or singers that are sometimes used to make a 3-axle trailer into a 4-axle trailer.
- Positions blocks, tie roper, and other devices to secure load during transit.
- Helps load and unload trucks.
- Verifies load against shipping papers.
- Prepares receipts for materials picked up to ensure proper logs/paperwork comply with DOT regulations.
- Maintains logs and records according to DOT regulations as required.
- Maintains and checks truck equipment and supplies to ensure roadworthiness.
- Notifies supervisor of currently needed or anticipated repairs.
- Perform minor emergency roadside repairs.
Requirements:
- 5+ Years of experience driving heavy loads, including loads requiring permits.
- Experience loading and unloading Rough Terrain Cranes is highly preferred
- Experience loading and unloading dozers, scrapers, blades, and or dirt equipment is preferred.
- Experience pulling heavy haul loads in the 90,000 to 140,000 lb. range
- Experience using high-pole cars.
- Experience with pulling loads that have dimensions that are a range of 12-14 ft wide, 25-65 ft long, and 11-14 ft tall.
- Valid Driver's license with Class A CDL certification, DOT Physical Examination (Medical card)
- Working knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety regulations / DOT guidelines.
- Knowledge of local major and minor roadways and the ability to effectively use maps and directions for efficient delivery routing.
- Possess knowledge of and/or previous experience in driving delivery trucks, towing multi-axle trailers and steerable trailers, loading and unloading RT cranes, and operating safely within high-traffic or congested city zones and in small areas.
- Must have proficient oral and written communication skills;
- Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and fit for duty test.
- Approximately 90% of the time is spent in external conditions, which may include temperature variance, elevated noise levels, dust, and fumes;
- Must be proficient with basic computer skills.
