CDL A DELIVERY DRIVER - HARRISBURG, PA
Job Overview:
The CDL Driver is responsible for performing pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and operating commercial equipment in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires a high level of skill in urban delivery environments, including navigating congested metropolitan areas, executing tight turns, and backing a 53-foot trailer in restricted spaces.
As a Delivery Driver, responsibilities also include delivering and unloading products, verifying order accuracy, reviewing and completing required documentation, correcting delivery discrepancies, and accurately entering trip data into onboard systems. Drivers are expected to maintain compliance with all safety regulations while delivering excellent customer service.
Job Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a tractor-trailer (53-foot trailer) in both regional and dense metropolitan environments
- Perform deliveries and unloading of products using appropriate equipment, including ramps, lift gates, pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and load bars
- Execute tight backing maneuvers and precise positioning in narrow streets, loading docks, and urban delivery locations
- This is a touch freight position, requiring frequent physical handling of product
- Adhere to all company safety policies and DOT regulations, minimizing accidents, traffic violations, and public complaints
- Immediately report any accidents or incidents to the Transportation Manager
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections and promptly report defects using proper documentation (DCVR)
- Pick up backhauls and vendor supplies while ensuring all associated paperwork is complete and accurate
- Verify delivery accuracy, including product count and condition, ensuring orders match customer specifications
- Address and resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently
- Complete all required logs, timecards, and trip data entries accurately and on time
Job Requirements:
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and current DOT medical card
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent experience operating a 53-foot trailer in metropolitan/city environments
- Experience must include tight backing, narrow street navigation, and urban route delivery
- Demonstrated proficiency in safely operating an electric pallet jack in delivery settings
- Ability to pass a written exam and road test
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision
Work Environment:
- Dispatch window is between 1:00 PM to 6:00 AM
- Routes include layovers throughout Pennsylvania and surrounding states
- Frequent metropolitan deliveries, including high-traffic areas such as New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, DC
- Year-round operations in all weather conditions (4-season driving)
